Self indulgent, tired or in the name of self-care, call it what you will, I treated myself to sleeping in late this morning. As I enjoyed a huge bowl of Cheerios in bed, I flipped between flame throwing acrobats on the Ellen DeGeneres show and a segment on running on Live with Regis and Kelly. Regis and Kelly obviously captured my attention although I am always strangely curious about the outcome of batons of fire flying in an open arena. After the Run Across America segment, Kelly and Reege teased me with the “stay tuned, after the break we’ll talk to Michelle Obama” hook. Too lazy to get up and get more OJ, I waited.

3:25 minutes later, Michelle Obama was on, as promised. I’ve always been a fan of the first lady and was excited to hear what she had to say. And on this self-indulgent morning, I was also interested in seeing what she was wearing. She spoke about how as a parent, she measures her success on her kids’ happiness and health. She believes these are universal themes for all parents, but not easily achieved due in part to cost and access. As first lady, she saw a need and an opportunity and the Let’s Move! initiative was born. Its mission is to end childhood obesity within a generation through a comprehensive approach by engaging every sector impacting the health of children. For more information – www.letsmove.gov.

On Monday, February 7th, Title IX Girls Running Club and the Cambridge community were invited to sign on as a community partner to the Let’s Move! initiative. Dr. Howard Koh, the United States Assistant Secretary of Health, joined Title IX Girls Running Club and around 150 others in celebrating Cambridge being the newest addition to the 500 Let’s Move communities nationwide.

Eight minutes later I was done with the segment and Cheerios and headed to work.
